Lord, Early Do I Seek Thee Prayer

Prayer in its most simplest definition is communication with God. While most of us already know this, what most people don't know is how to properly address God in prayer. Just like there are many different types of prayers, there also different ways we must approach God when we pray. Today God wants me to teach you the three ways to properly address Him in prayer.

1. Heavenly Father-In Matthew 6:9-13 Jesus teaches His disciples how to pray and petition God as our Heavenly Father. When praying for your own personal needs, you address God, The Father. Though the Lord's prayer is written in third person, it is a personal prayer we pray to God to get our daily needs meet-our daily bread.

2. God, Our Friend-When interceding and praying to God on the behalf of others, we address Him as Friend. Abraham was considered a Friend of God because He had an intimate personal relationship with Him and he knew God's heart. When you know the heart of God, God considers You His friend. Because Abraham shared God's heart, He knew God was merciful and interceded for God not destroy in righteous people in Sodom and Gomorrah. This moved God's heart and caused Him to spare Abraham's nephew Lot and his family. Are you a friend of God? Friends pray for their friends!

3. God, The Righteous Judge-When praying for justice and mercy, you pray to God, the Righteous Judge. Isaiah 3:13 says, "The LORD arises to contend, And stands to judge the people." True justice can only be granted from God. King Solomon teaches us, "Many seek the ruler's favor, but justice comes from the Lord." If you need justice and mercy, you need to present your case to God in the Courts of Heaven.

Read, study, pray, and mediate on the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13. You should know the words of this prayer by heart, but for this week's assignment I want you to meditate on it. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you specific revelations on each scripture in it. Learn how to pray to God, the Father!

Jesus tells us to seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteous and everything we need will be given to us (Mathew 6:33). One of the greatest revelations I got from this scripture is to put God first in every area of my life. One of the ways I do this daily is I start my day off with prayer, praise, worship, and bible study. Every morning when I wake up, I spend the first few minutes in prayer and seeking God's face. By doing this I show God He is the most important priority in my life and He comes first.

For this week's prayer focus I want to challenge you to start your day off doing the same. In my Christian Devotional book, Early Do I Seek Thee: 31 Days Of Seeking God In The Morning, I share a prayer you can pray every morning when you wake up.

Morning Prayer From Early Do I Seek Thee:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for waking me up this morning and allowing me to see another day.

As I rise, I give you the praise, honor, and glory due unto your name.

For you are worthy to be praised and I will bless your name at all times. I know that it is your grace, mercy, compassion, and loving kindness that sustains me.

Forgive me of my sins as I forgive others who have sinned against me.

Before I start my day, I ask that you give me my daily bread and order my steps in your Word.

Help me walk my faith and not by sight.

Supply all my needs according to your riches in glory in your son Christ Jesus.

Impart into me a spirit of wisdom and revelation to complete my daily tasks.

Give me clarity when I get confused and strengthen me when I get weak.

Send your angels to encamp all around me and protect me from danger seen and unseen.

Bless my family, friends, as well as my enemies.

Give me words of encouragement to all who cross my path and use me to spread the Good News to those that are lost.

Let no weapon formed against me prosper and condemn every tongue that rises against me in judgment.

I seal this prayer by the Blood of Lamb and the word of my testimony.

In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.
